FAQ - Intellisync Errors This is a list of error messages that you might encounter while using the Intellisync tool. You can either click on an error message to take you directly to the explanation or scroll through to read all of them. This error message is displayed when the synchronizer is not able to locate your server database. There are several possible reasons for this:
2. "Error connecting to handheld" This message appears when an error was detected while attempting to connect with your handheld. There are several possible reasons for this:
Refer to the BlackBerry Handheld User’s Guide for more information about connecting the handheld to your computer. Back to top 3. "Error receiving from handheld" This message appears when an error was detected while attempting to receive data from your handheld. A connection with the handheld was successfully established, but data transfer could not be completed. Verify that your handheld has sufficient battery life for the receive operation. Serial communication can place a significant drain on the battery. Check the handheld’s home screen to view how much battery life is available. It is also possible for the battery power to be adequate for normal unit operation, but insufficient for data transmission. Refer to the BlackBerry Handheld User’s Guide for more information about the battery. Back to top 4. "Error sending to handheld" This message appears when an error was detected while attempting to send data to your handheld. A connection with the handheld was successfully established, but data transfer failed. There are several possible causes for this failure:
The indicated field must be mapped before you can continue. All fields whose names are marked with an asterisk (*) must be mapped before a data transfer can take place. Note: If a field marked with an asterisk has sub-fields, those can be mapped instead of the main field. Select OK in the warning dialog box to return to the Field Mapping window, then correct the field mapping. Back to top You have either forgotten to enter a file name or database name, or the name you have entered is not valid. To avoid making errors when typing in a file or database name, click the Browse button to select the file or database from a file selection window. Back to top When a file name must be specified in the Choose Translator window, an example specification is provided in the File Name section. This normally has to be modified to an actual file name in order to perform a synchronization. If you attempt to perform an operation without altering the example provided, or if you type in an illegal file name, the Invalid File message is displayed. If you get this error message, go to the Choose Translator window and re-specify the file you want to access. Note: If you use the Browse capability to browse for files, you will avoid the possibility of making typographical errors when entering file names. Back to top One of the internal tables (stored on disk) has been damaged. The table is necessary for the operation of the application, and must be re-installed or recovered before proceeding. An internal table can be damaged when you experience disk problems on your system, or if the integrity of the table is somehow compromised by an unexpected application error. Be sure to use an available disk utility to verify the integrity of your disk drive. A backup copy of this system table is created the first time you run a synchronization. However, the backup copy of the file cannot be found in your execution directory. Consequently, it may be necessary for you to uninstall and then re-install the BlackBerry Desktop Software. For installation instructions, refer to the BlackBerry Desktop Software Installation & Getting Started Guide. If you select OK at the prompt, the backup copy of the table, created the first time you run a synchronization, will be restored automatically. Note that restoring a table from a backup version may result in the loss of certain application settings. For example, modifications that have been applied to the default field mappings will be lost. If you choose Cancel at the prompt, you will need to either re-install the BlackBerry Desktop Software to recover the damaged file or run another synchronization to re-display the prompt (allowing you to restore from the backup). Back to top This error appears when no fields are mapped. At least one field needs to be mapped for synchronization to occur. Note: Fields marked by asterisks in the Field Mapping window must be mapped in order for a data transfer to succeed. If a field marked with an asterisk has sub-fields, those can be mapped instead of the main field. Select OK to return to the Field Mapping window, then correct the field mapping. Back to top The specified field must be mapped before proceeding. This is a special kind of field that is divided into several sub-fields. In order to continue with the operation, at least one of the sub-fields must be mapped. Select OK to return to the Field Mapping window, then correct the field mapping. Back to top Most of the synchronizer’s parameters and settings (including field mappings) are located in a single file. If this file (also called the system table) becomes corrupted due to disk problems or serious software crashes, the table may need to be re-installed. When a synchronization is run for the first time, a backup copy of the system table is automatically created in your installation directory. Selecting OK in a “System Table” error message restores the system table to the installation status automatically. You can also restore a fresh copy of the system table by copying the file named TABLES.BAK in your installation directory over file TABLES.ITB (in same directory). Note that refreshing the system table will reset all settings (such as custom field mapping) to their installation defaults. If restoring the system table has no effect, try re-installing the BlackBerry Desktop Software to create a fresh set of program files. Back to top 12. "Unable to access data file" Some PC applications require that the file containing your data be closed during synchronizations. If you receive this message, close your data file and re-run the operation. Back to top 13. "Unable to complete request" This error has most likely occurred because there is not enough disk space to complete the synchronization. If the log file shows ‘error –789’ after the operation, you need to free some disk space to be able to synchronize. Back to top |
