You can either click on a question to take you directly to the answer or scroll through to read all of them.
1. The handheld disconnected while the Application Loader was running and now I am getting an error message. Why?
2. When loading new software onto the handheld, I received the following error: "Unable to load/register asciiconnector.dll, ilxoasis5.dll or ilxlnic.dll". What causes these errors and how do I correct them?

1. The handheld disconnected while the Application Loader was running and now I am getting an error message. Why?

Before you begin to load a new application to your handheld, make sure that the cable is securely connected to the serial port on your computer and that the handheld is placed properly in the cradle.

If the connection between the handheld and PC is interrupted while the Application Loader is running, you will receive the message Bad Load, Restart and your handheld will be inoperable.

To restart your handheld after receiving an error message during loading:

  1. Connect your handheld properly to your PC.
  2. Launch Application Loader from the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  3. When the transfer dialog appears, press R to restart. Your handheld should return to an operable condition and the new software will load onto your handheld. Back to top

2. When loading new software onto the handheld, I received the following error: "Unable to load/register asciiconnector.dll, ilxoasis5.dll or ilxlnic.dll". What causes these errors and how do I correct them?

These errors are caused by incompatible versions of comcat.dll and ole32.dll.

  1. You should have the following versions of the comcat.dll and ole32.dll files:
bulletComcat.dll v4.71 should be used with ole32.dll v4.00 or earlier
bulletComcat.dll v5 should be used with ole32.dll v4.71 or later

Note: If the versions of comcat.dll and ole32.dll do not match as listed, please use the following web site for assistance in correcting your file systems: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q201/3/64.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0
  2. Check your Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry directory to ensure that the following files have been installed: asciiconnector.fil, ilxoasis5.dll, or ilxlnic.dll.
  3. To register these files, ensure that the Regsvr32.exe file exists in your Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry directory. In the DOS prompt, change directories to \Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry.
  4. In the BlackBerry directory register the files in the following order: asciiconnector.fil, ilxoasis5.dll, ilxlnic.dll. (To register a file, type Regsvr32.exe followed by the file name and press Enter.) After registering a file you should receive a message that shows "successful".
  5. Once the files have been registered, restart your computer. After restarting double-click the Intellisync tool and configure the PIM functions. Back to top
