FAQ - Redirector Configuration You can either click on a question to take you directly to the answer or scroll through to read all of them.
1. Why do I have to generate new keys? Messages are encrypted when they are sent between your computer and the handheld. Your handheld can only receive messages that were sent with the correct encryption. You need to generate keys to establish the random encryption codes that enable your computer to communicate with your handheld. Encryption is used as a security measure to ensure that your handheld and only your handheld receives messages sent from your computer. You can manually generate keys whenever you wish, or you can set BlackBerry Desktop Software to automatically generate keys every month. For maximum security, new keys should be manually generated every two to four weeks. Back to top 2. What happens if the key on my computer isn't the same as the key on my handheld? If the key on your computer is not the same as the key on your handheld, your handheld will not be able to receive messages sent from your computer. If you generate a key when the handheld is not connected to your computer and then the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector forwards messages to your handheld, your handheld will not be able to receive those messages because it does not have the correct key. As always, the message will still be saved within your desktop email application. To ensure that you never have problems with key compatibility, always generate keys while your handheld is connected to your computer. If you set the program to generate keys automatically, new keys will only be created when the handheld is connected to your computer. Back to top 3. How often should I generate keys? For maximum security, new keys should be generated every two to four weeks. If you set BlackBerry Desktop Software to generate keys automatically, it will generate them every month. Back to top
