DESIGN
Don’t be turned off by the 7100’s shrunken 20-key keyboard. Thanks to its SureType software, you can take this smart phone right out of the box and be typing nearly as accurately and naturally as any QWERTY keyboard allows within minutes. Like traditional BlackBerrys, the 7100 sports the popular thumbwheel and Back button for easy navigation, as well as shortcuts such as hitting the Space bar to insert an “@” symbol when typing an e-mail address. Another noteworthy departure from the traditional BlackBerry design is the addition of Send/End keys, which reinforce that the 7105t, 7100g and 7100i are designed for voice as much as data.

FEATURES
The 7105t and 7100g support nearly worldwide access to voice and data, thanks to the quad-band GSM/GPRS radio. The display is certainly crisper and more colorful than those on traditional BlackBerrys. Other features include Bluetooth, for pairing this phone with a wireless headset or a BlackBerry bluetooth keyboard and a plenty-loud speakerphone. The 7100i works with Sprint/Nextel's iDen network and adds the direct connect feature.

E-MAIL
Aside from the keyboard, the 7100 delivers what you’d expect on a BlackBerry: e-mail pushed out as soon as it hits your ISP or company’s server. Like other recent BlackBerries, the 7100 lets you send and receive e-mail from up to ten separate accounts, including personal and work.

PERFORMANCE
Voice calls were clear, and data speeds are comparable to what we’ve experienced on other phones. Battery life clocked in around the promised four hours. The candybar design is the right size in terms of putting the microphone by your mouth instead of your jowl.

VERDICT
The price is right, and so is the design. There are an array of custom made BlackBerry accessories for the 7100 series models in the eAccess-eStore. The 7100 series is a BlackBerry that trades geek for chic, without sacrificing usability or its gold-standard e-mail support.
