FAQ - Enterprise Exchange 2000

You can either click on a question to take you directly to the answer or scroll through to read all of them.
1. What solutions do you have for Microsoft Exchange 2000?
2. What administrative rights are needed?
3. Are the same rights needed to install as are needed to administrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

1. What solutions do you have for Microsoft Exchange 2000?

BlackBerry's solution for the Microsoft Exchange Environment is BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Software (often referred to as the MMC Snap-in), which allows Microsoft Exchange 5.5 services and software to interact with the Microsoft Exchange 2000 servers. BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) functions as a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Software allows you to administrate BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) in a native Microsoft Exchange 2000 or mixed (Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 5.5) environment. From the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) console, you can administrate users at a server-level and a mailbox-level. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Software includes an MSDE or SQL database (to store data relevant to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) and administration mailboxes), and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) console (the interface that allows administration of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) and its users). BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) can be used with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 2.0 or higher. Back to top

2. What administrative rights are needed?

To install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server you still require the "Service Account Admin" at the Site and Configuration container. To administer the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the following permissions are required:
bulletSite Level: "View only"
bulletConfiguration Container: no permissions required
bulletRecipients Container: "Admin"

For further information on account permissions, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q262054, "How to Get Service Account Access to All Mailboxes in Exchange 2000". Back to top

3. Are the same rights needed to install as are needed to administrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

To install you must be logged on to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target machine as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account. To administrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you must have administrative and Windows NT (log on locally and log on as a service) permissions on the service account. Back to top
